KINGSTON, Jamaica – In a well-judged ride jockey Dick Cardenas took the Caymanas Monday seventh on the Robert Pearson trained Alexa’s Lodge at odds of 2-1.
That win by Alexa’s Lodge was achieved in a four-year-old and upwards (non-winners of two) event going 5 ½ furlongs.
Cardenas kept Alexa’s Lodge in fourth place as the trio of Princess Kyra (Chris Mamdeen), Chitu Prince (Linton Steadman), and Voytex (Anthony Thomas) were locked together on the front end of the pack.
It was the speedy Princess Kyra who entered the last two furlongs of the stretch drive with the advantage as Cardenas took Alexa’s Lodge on the outside and in a flash assumed authority but had to find something extra as Lava Boy (Tevin Foster) came flying home.
In the end, it was Alexa’s Lodge by 1 ¼ lengths over Lava Boy. Princess Kyra held on for third.
