KINGSTON, Jamaica - For the first time in the five-year-old existence of the Diamond Mile sponsored by Supreme Ventures Limited (SVL) and the Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Commission (BGLC) there will be a Diamond Mile Weekend of racing.
This weekend starts on Friday, November 8 with 10 races being offered and 11 races on the Saturday when the Diamond Mile itself is to be contested.
On the Friday, the two major races on offer are the BGLC Trophy and the SVL Trophy.
The BGLC Trophy is an Overnight Allowance contest for horses that are three-year-olds and upwards with the distance being seven furlongs. The purse for this race is $1,400,000, which is $400,000 more than the regular purse usually paid out by the promoting company.
With the Overnight class being the most competitive, expect the likes of My Elle Belle, Royal Vibes, Sergeant Reckless, Marquesas, Jamai Raja, Lottery Ticket, Madam Secretary, Corazon and others to face Mr Starter.
The SVL Trophy is a Restricted Stakes for imported three-year-olds and upwards non-winners of three races lifetime and native-bred three-year-olds and upwards non-winners of four races lifetime to be run over 6 ½ furlongs (1,300 metres).
The purse for the SVL Trophy race is $1,333,000, which is $400,000 more than the regular purse for this grouping.
