The announcement was made by Deputy Chairman of the Jamaica Racing Commission, Derrick Smith, during a press conference held on Thursday, February 12, 2026. Smith underscored the importance of the Diamond Mile to the sport, noting its role in elevating local racing standards and reaffirming Jamaica’s place on the regional racing stage.

  1. a step in the right direction,now a mile is a benchmark test for any throughbred..i hope we as punters can look foward to a mile and quater mile sooner than expected.theres no such viceral feeling of excitement as seeing a full field of 14 horses passing the stand for the first time into the clubhouse bend..its unequalled

  2. i know this is a financial game of allocating, promoting and marketing dollars to promote big races, but i beg of supreme ventures to not ignore THE DERBY,its a primer classic at only i beleive $8 million jamaican..a boost is needed this year please.
