KINGSTON, Jamaica – Honouring the legendary thoroughbred Harlequin, the eighth race of the day is set to deliver electrifying action.

This Open Allowance sprint covers five furlongs straight, showcasing a mix of proven speedsters and ambitious contenders.

Here’s The Quick Galloper’s insight into how the race might unfold.

1 – UNBELIEVABLE FORCE: Fresh off a commanding victory in Overnight Allowance, this talented filly steps into Open Allowance for the first time. While she possesses immense potential, this will be her toughest challenge yet. She’s on the path to success in this grade, but today’s race may be more of a learning experience than a winning one.

2 – DESERT OF MALIBU: Late non-starter

3 – LEGACY ISLE: With only one win from three starts in 2025, he’s faced his fair share of struggles. However, recent workout reports suggest that he is in good health and moving well again. Legacy Isle doesn’t need to set the pace; he can sit behind the frontrunners and strike when the moment is right. His biggest unknown? Racing down the chute for the first time—an obstacle he must overcome to be competitive.

4 – BOOTYLICIOUS: A top-tier local-bred speedster who thrives on the straight course, Bootylicious faced a daunting challenge on May 3, finishing fourth against Champion Bubbler and company. To claim victory, she must execute every step flawlessly. It won’t be easy, but she’s got the speed to make it interesting.

5 – MAHOGANY: After an Overnight Allowance win on April 21, Mahogany moves up to Open Allowance once more. Although his experience on the straight is limited, his sheer class ensures he’ll be a factor in the finish. Can he overcome the distance challenge and prove his worth at this level? Time will tell.

6 – IS THAT A FACT: 2025 has not been kind to this competitor, and the burden of top weight (126 lbs) raises eyebrows. Even with the tongue tie removed, expectations for a strong performance remain low. This may not be his race to shine.

7 – CHAMPION BUBBLER: The upset victor of the straight-course event on May 3, Champion Bubbler surprised many by defeating Pack Plays, Is That A Fact, and Bootylicious. His trainer makes an interesting call, adding the tongue tie while removing the figure eight. With a significant jump of 14 lbs in the handicaps (softened slightly by apprentice claims), Champion Bubbler’s outside draw plays to his advantage.
