KINGSTON, Jamaica - DANE “Warrior Chief” Nelson believes his good form in Canada will continue.
Nelson, who is presently riding at the Century Mile racetrack in Edmonton, Canada, won aboard the Gonzalo Anderson-trained Bare Back Jack on Sunday (July 16), bringing his season total to 23. Nelson is two wins ahead of Alezander Marti (21 wins) in the jockeys’ standings. Jose Martinao Asencio is third with 20 wins, and Enrique Alonzo Gonzalez is fourth with 15 wins.
“Winning races on the international racing circuit is always beneficial because it draws attention to you and helps to build your brand. I want to continue to build the Dane Nelson brand,” Nelson said.
“The aim for now is to ride as many winners as possible and see where that takes me. I am riding in good form and getting the rides; all I have to do now is keep working hard and putting away the mounts. I just want to win races, and I enjoy competing in them,” Nelson added.
Backless Dress Jack won the first race, a six-and-a-half-furlong Starter Allowance race, by a length and three quarters in 1:16.77.
“The horse ran a fantastic race. It was an excellent performance and I am delighted with the victory. I believe this will be a good season for me,” Nelson stated.
Since he started riding on the North American circuit Nelson has ridden 355 winners from 1,900 rides.
