Former three-time champion jockey Dane Nelson returned on his first day in the saddle with a bang from his riding stint abroad as he guided the Steven Todd trained two-year-old Phenom to a noticeable win over five and a half furlongs.
Phenom won at good odds of 8-1, paying $457 to win and $362 to place.
Second was Duke (Dick Cardenas) at odds of 9-5 with third going to Cairo (Wesley Henry).
This was the second winner on the day for Todd having taken the second race with Dr Banner.
