KINGSTON, Jamaica – Jockey Dane Dawkins who is scheduled to ride Atomica, the prohibitive favourite in tomorrow’s (June 4) Classic 1000 Guineas, fell from a two-year-old this morning at exercise. The two-year-old is trained by Gary Subratie, who is also the conditioner of Atomica.
In an interview with QUICKGALLOP.COM, Subratie said: Yes, Dane (Dawkins) fell from one of my two-year-olds this morning (June 3). Dane is ok, no damage has been done to him, he is fine and will ride Atomica tomorrow. The horse was not that lucky. My two-year-old was badly damaged in the incident which happened, just after passing the winning post close to the round mile – seven-furlong markers.”
Subratie continued: “The horse got damaged on the rails – on the outside. I have repeatedly gone to the authorities at the track and pointed out that the area of the rails in question is dangerous and needs fixing. Nothing has been done, and now I maybe have lost a good two-year-old for good.”
