KINGSTON, Jamaica – Nine three-year-olds (non-winners of two) for locally bred horses and a maiden event for foreigners face Mr Starter in the 2022 rendition of the Terremoto Trophy.
It is not often that any of the classes, especially the three-year-olds are required to race over the two turns of 10 furlongs, which makes choosing a winner difficult.
Below is the horse-by-horse analysis by THE QUICK GALLOPER.
1 – SALUTE THE DEPUTY is a bay gelding (April 20) by Deputy Glitters out of No Pain No Gain trained by Michael Marlowe with Dick Cardenas in the saddle. Only has an outsider’s chance of winning this one.
2 – D HEAD CORNERSTONE is a bay colt (March 23) by Bern Identity out of Soul of the Heart trained by Gary Subratie with Andre Martin in the saddle. D Head Cornerstone was 12 lengths behind Blue Vinyl in the St Leger 15 days ago when finishing fourth. In the Leger, D Head Cornerstone was way ahead of Roraima and Rainsville, and with no significant change in the handicaps, this Gary Subratie trainee looks set for career win number two.
3 – LION OF EKATI is a dark bay gelding (USA February 14) by Tale of Ekati out of Indian Conduct trained by Jason DaCosta with Roger Hewitt in the saddle. This foreigner, who is yet to impress.
4 – GREAT WAYNE is a bay colt (March 30) by Casual Trick out of Classy Aviator trained by Jason DaCosta with Anthony Thomas in the saddle. Travelled nine furlongs and 25 yards on June 5, and was well held by D Head Cornerstone. A place on the board is the only feasible option for Great Wayne.
5 – RORAIMA is a bay colt (May 13) by Bern Identity out of Classic Princess trained by Anthony Nunes with Tevin Foster in the saddle. Did not find a spark in the St Leger, will enjoy the trip but won’t trouble the principals.
6 – SLAM is a bay gelding (March 4) by Sensational Slam out of Bedroom Chatter trained by Ryan Darby with Jemar Jackson in the saddle. Slam has flattered to deceive since his maiden win in May over 8 ½ furlongs. A place on the board is the best possible finish for Slam.
7 – PELICULA is a bay filly (April 19) by Soul Warrior out of Milestone trained by Richard Azan with Dane Dawkins in the saddle. This filly will enjoy the distance and will get close. Note, Pelicula races with the blinkers on.
8 – RAINSVILLE is a grey gelding (April 12) by Casual Trick out of Fiftyshadesofray trained by Richard Azan with Bebeto Harvey in the saddle. Rainsville was a non-factor in the St Leger but his run prior over this distance was substantial. On June 19, Rainsville finished four lengths behind I Realise, and based on that effort has a real chance of winning this one.
9 – TOTAL PROSPERITY is a filly (USA February 3) by Danza out of One Hot Romance) trained by Steven Todd with Aaron Chatrie in the saddle. This foreigner needs much more time.
