KINGSTON, Jamaica – Despite the late withdrawal of the pre-race favourite, Is That A Fact, from the six-furlong Open Allowance race honouring I'm Satisfied, Perfect Brew's win deserves significant attention.
Winning his second Open Allowance and advancing to Grade One, Perfect Brew solidified his reputation as one of the better come-from-behind horses presently in training.
As a three-year-old, Perfect Brew struggled in longer Classic races and was unable to close in those events. The offspring of Bern Identity and Midnight Brew then progressed through his age group conditions, with his longest winning distance being a mile.
Trained by Richard Azan, it took Perfect Brew three starts to win in Overnight Allowance and only two attempts to find success in Open Allowance.
During the I'm Satisfied Trophy on Saturday, October 7, Perfect Brew showcased both his progress and aptitude for staying off the pace before striking decisively in the straight.
Jockey Tevin Foster expertly guided Perfect Brew, who raced in fourth as I've Got Magic, Rojorn Di Pilot, and Jordon Reign battled for the lead from the start.
Entering the final two furlongs, Perfect Brew remained about four lengths behind the leading trio. However, he then gained full momentum and surged past his rivals to secure a 4 ½-length victory with a time of 1:12.1.
"I am so happy for Perfect Brew. His steady improvement to reach the top grade is very pleasing," said trainer Azan.
I've Got Magic claimed second place while Jordon Reign finished third.
