KINGSTON, Jamaica - The second race of ten on Saturday, March 9, 2024, is a three-year-old non-winners of two for locally bred horses, and also a maiden for imported three-year-old.
Six horses are entered in this event which will be contested over five furlongs round.
The Quick Galloper’s examination of these six runners is published below.
1 - MATUSO is a bay colt (April 7) by Casual Trick out of Puddy Pooh, trained by Richard Azan with Dane Dawkins riding. Matuso, a winner of one race from four starts, is gearing up for his first outing as a three-year-old. As a two-year-old, Matuso was notably more effective in longer races, finding five furlongs rather limiting. He will likely require this race to regain his form.
2 - COMEHOMETOME is a bay filly (January 29) by Northern Giant out of Heart of Gold, trained by Jason DaCosta with Reyan Lewis in the saddle. Comehometome has delivered consistent performances in her two starts as a three-year-old, securing second place finishes in both a five-furlong sprint and a 6 ½ furlong race. She seems to have a penchant for sprinting over distance racing, making this event particularly well-suited to her abilities.
3 - BUTTERCUP is a bay filly (February 2) by Conquest Cherimash out of Shahar, trained by Richard Azan with Raddesh Roman holding the reins. Buttercup, who placed fourth in the Jamaica Two Year Old Stakes at 17 lengths behind the winner, is now starting out as a three-year-old. She appears more compatible with longer distances, which suggests that tackling five furlongs may pose a challenge for her.
4 - POPE’S LADY is a bay filly (USA February 8) by Catholic Boy out of Cheers To That, trained by Steven Todd with Paul Francis riding. Pope’s Lady needs more time to adapt to local conditions.
5 - RICHES TO RAGS is a chestnut filly (April 21) by Union Rags out of Place Des Vosges, trained by Philip Feanny with Tevin Foster aboard. Despite finishing behind Comehometome in their last two encounters, Riches To Rags has demonstrated promise with on-point workouts. With favorable performance trends and solid prep work leading up to this event, she stands a fair chance of reversing her fortunes and finding success.
6 - DON’T TELL LOU LOU is a bay filly (May 8) by Savoy Stomp out Lastochka, trained by Al Brown with Jordan Barrett in the saddle. Entering non-two for the first time, Don’t Tell Lou Lou will have to wait.
