KINGSTON, Jamaica – Co-champion and leading jockey Anthony Thomas got his winning trail started in the Caymanas Monday third when he piloted 6-5 chance Buckaluck to her sixth win from 83 career starts.
Trained by Dale Murphy, Buckaluck could not go with the early pacesetters as Super Amia (Omar Walker), Smokey Topaz (Oneil Mullings) and Chrisanli engaged in a dog fight for the lead.
Super Amia dropped out of that tussle after 2 ½ furlongs were run with Christanli establishing a slight advantage on Smokey Topaz as Buckaluck was pushed through to be much closer.
In the straight, Chrisanli was overtaken by Smokey Topaz as Thomas placed Buckaluck on the inside. Buckaluck then got going and in quick time went to the front to win by 3 ½ lengths. Smokey Topaz was second and Chrisanli third.
Buckaluck provided trainer Murphy with his second winner in 2021.
