Captain Sparrow Jumps Into St Leger Contention

KINGSTON, Jamaica - The odds issued by the team from Quickgallopja.com have made several changes to pre-race odds for the next three-year-old Classic on the calendar, the 10-furlong Jamaica St Leger, scheduled to be contested on Saturday, July 6.

1000 Guineas heroine, Run Julie Run remains the favourite to win her second Classic, now at longer odds of 7-5.

The impressive non-winners of two - victory over nine furlongs and 25 yards (Sat, June 15, 2024) has pushed Captain Sparrow into serious contention.

The odds makers are of the view that given the distance of the St Leger, Captain Sparrow is more suited to produce a better run than Intrestntimesahead, the latter being the original 2-1 second favourite. Captain Sparrow is now offered pre-race St Leger odds of 5-2.

Despite finishing second in the 2000 Guineas behind stablemate California Crown, champion two-year-old Intrestntimesahead is now listed as the St Leger third favourite at odds of 4-1. The oddsmakers are a bit concerned about his ability to effectively get ten furlongs.

Coming into the picture for the first time is Supremasi, following his encouraging second-place finish behind stablemate, Captain Sparrow in the aforementioned non-winners of two call. Supremasi is given odds of 6-1.

California Crown, made in three wins from three starts when winning the 2000 Guineas. It was a gate-to-win run by California Crown, with the oddsmakers deducing that he is not going to be as effective going the ten furlongs of the St Leger. California Crown is given odds of 8-1.
