Double Crown will have a major say

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Former Triple Crown winner Supreme Soul is presented with probably the best opportunity to cross the winning post in front for the first time in many efforts.

This event is named after Liu Chie Poo and is an Overnight Allowance contest (three-year-old and upwards) at one mile. The eight horses in this trophy race in post-position order are Blood Fire, Marquesas, Supreme Soul, Double Crown, Gambler, Chinamax, Helicopter, and Ras Emanuel.

Blood Fire, Chinamax, Gambler, and Ras Emanuel can be safely ruled out.

Blood Fire is moving up from the claiming ranks, while Chinamax and Gambler have been swirling around in the Overnight grade without much to show, while Ras Emanuel is now 10-years-old and for all intent has seen better days.

Marquesas has his issues with injuries and has never been able to fulfil his true potential, and it is highly unlikely that Marquesas can revive himself enough to win this trophy race.

Helicopter is a recent entrant to the Overnight Allowance grouping and has raced against some of the big wigs in local racing. The distance is to Helicopter’s liking but his time will come but not tomorrow.

Supreme Soul finished second behind stablemate Awesome Treasure going nine furlongs and 25 days, by over nine lengths, which although quite a distance behind,  Supreme Soul gave a hint that he might be nearing his form of old. This Overnight Allowance call might well provide this former Triple Crown winner some sort of redemption.

Double Crown is coming off a rest period of close to 60 days and should be fit and proper to give of his best. He is highly thought of but is yet to show his worth. This race is tailored made for Double Crown, who despite his up and down career, is hard to oppose.
