Allows weights to rivals, wins by a length
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Calculus confined his status as one of the best horses in training at this time with another performance of pure class in winning the Caymanas Saturday ninth run in honour of another outstanding thoroughbred, Miracle Man.
The Miracle Man Cup was for three-year-old and upwards horses at the Open Allowance | Graded Stakes level travelling a distance of 9 ½ furlongs.
With Sparkle Diamond declared a late non-starter, Awesome Treasure (Dane Dawkins) ended up as the only natural leader, and that the filly did from the gates opened with Oneofakind (Robert Halledeen) and Calculus (Shane Ellis) tracking about two lengths behind.
Along the backstretch, the order remained the same until the horses started to go around the second bend when Ellis decided to press for the initiative, and when he did so, Halledeen on Oneofakind also started to move.
Oneofakind took over, with Calculus playing catch-up, but by the time they turned for the final two furlongs, Oneofakind held a slim advantage but Calculus started to flow going by with ease and although Oneofakind was plugging away he was no match for the winner. The third slot was filled by old stager Hover Craft.
Trained by leader Gary Subratie, Calculus was winning his seventh race from 16 career starts.
