KINGSTON, Jamaica – It took the brilliance of jockey Anthony Thomas on Nina Dorada to earn a first win for new trainer Carlton Cunningham. A week ago, Cunningham had the misfortune of seeing one of his horses get by the post in front but was later disqualified, making Nina Dorada officially his first winner as a conditioner.
Thomas and Nina Dorada were locked in a fierce battle with Sir Frederick ridden by champion jockey Dane Dawkins from three furlongs out of the 5 ½ furlong distance of the race. In a riveting tussle in the straight, the dogged Thomas got the nod on Nina Dorada by a head over Sir Frederick.
That win by Nina Dorada came in the Caymanas, Monday, May 22, 2023, second.
