KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders’ Association (TOBA) and the Jamaica Racehorse Owners Association (JROA) have merged to form one entity under the TOBA umbrella.

The merger took place yesterday (Sunday, January 22, 2023) at the annual general meeting (AGM) of TOBA held at the HAM Stables in St Catherine.

Howard Hamilton, who was elected as president of the new merged TOBA, said it was critical to get off the ground running as there were many issues to deal with.

“This is a significant move as the merger brings together the lifeblood of the racing industry anywhere in the world. As such, we (breeders and owners) will strive to increase benefits for members, making sure our voice is always heard,” Hamilton said.

He continued: “The new TOBA will undoubtedly have a stronger voice when lobbying the promoting company and the government on all matters pertaining to the development of the horse racing industry in Jamaica, a position we all strive to achieve.

The full slate of the new TOBA is; president Howard Hamilton, vice president Desmond Lewis, directors Paul Wright, Lorenzo Robinson, Philip Feanny, Derrick Brandt, Randy Mclean, Dave Girod, Dr Graham Brown, Lincoln Sutherland, and Courtney Thorte.

Shawnette Hill is the secretary.

  1. I think this is a move in the right direction. Representation and lobbying will be stronger. All the best going forward.
