KINGSTON, Jamaica – It was nothing short of an outstanding debut for the bred in utero chestnut colt Double Crown (Bellamy Road – Salty Talk) in the third race which was a Maiden Special Weight event for three-year-olds run over seven furlongs.

Double Crown, a bit anxious on her first time in a competitive race, was unsettled before the start and was not away with the front runners when the starter let them off.

It was Helmetta (Trevor Simpson – 5-1) another bred in utero horse who fought for the lead with Ajita (Youville Pinnock – 9-1). At this stage, Simon Husbands on Double Crown for trainer Ian Parsard was not rushed down as the widely experienced jockey took his time- easily coming into third-fourth as they went by the four-furlong marker.

Still behind four to five lengths the leaders entering the straight, Double Crown showed his undoubted class as he pulled away from rivals with long loping strides to win by 5 ¼ lengths in a satisfactory time of 1:27.0.

DenDen (Dane Nelson 7-2) ran on for second with Sencity (Reyan Lewis – 21-1) in the third slot.

A proud trainer Parsard after the race said: “This horse (Double Crown) is from good stock whose preparation coming into this race was spot one.”
