KINGSTON, Jamaica – Following a thumping win in The Portmore (May 6, 2023), by Thalia, and the no-show performance of the then previously unbeaten Bootylicious, both have been declared by the odds makers at Quickgallop.com as the joint 7-5 favourites for the one mile 1000 Guineas. The 1000 Guineas is scheduled as the first three-year-old Classic of the 2023 season in early June.
The odds makers have bypassed the below par performance of Bootylicious, especially after allowing weight all round in The Portmore. The claim is that Bootylicious at level weight with rivals in the 1000 Guineas will have a more telling impact in the 1000 Guineas.
Thalita making full use of the four kilogramme weight advantage, to win the Portmore, the odds makers have also taken into consideration her potential likeness for going longer.
Getting into the odds picture are Aria’s Reign, third in The Portmore, and Brown Skin (fourth in The Portmore). Both operating at the non-winners of two, were seen running on strongly in The Portmore, to get the attention of the odds makers.
