KINGSTON, Jamaica - With an obvious eye on the Mouttet Mile, Alford Brown-trained Blue Vinyl made a powerful statement on Saturday, October 14, 2023, by claiming a decisive victory in the Mark My Word Trophy feature race.

Bred by Bern Identity – Blufield, Blue Vinyl effortlessly won the Open Allowance contest for three-year-olds and upwards by 21 lengths, marking one of his most outstanding performances to date. The horse clocked an impressive 1:54.2 for the nine-furlong and 25-yard (1,820m) event.

Brown indicated that his horse might participate in the Jamaica Cup before targeting the Mouttet Mile on December 2.

"Blue Vinyl's run was truly impressive, and his potential seems limitless. I'm also very satisfied with the final time as it showcases his true worth," Brown said.

He added: "Our primary goal is the Mouttet Mile, and our focus now is to keep him sound, healthy, and fit until then. There's a possibility he'll compete in the Jamaica Cup, but we'll see how it goes. We're taking it one day at a time."

Jockey Javaniel Patterson rode Blue Vinyl skillfully as he broke well at the start and quickly secured the lead entering the clubhouse turn. He then guided the field onto the main track ahead of Outbidder (Phillip Parchment), Gone A Negril (Youville Pinnock), and D Head Cornerstone (Dane Dawkins).

As Blue Vinyl maintained a steady pace down the backstretch, he rapidly pulled away from competitors approaching the half-mile (800m) turn. Although Patterson gave him a gentle tap from the whip entering the straightaway, Blue Vinyl easily crossed the finish line without any contest.

D Head Cornerstone finished in second place, followed by Miniature Man in third.
