KINGSTON, Jamaica - The 10-furlong Jamaica Oaks race will take place on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at Caymanas Park.
Thirteen fillies are set to compete, and below are the details of The Quick Galloper’s take on each filly in the order of the draw:
- ROSETTA is a roan born on April 6, sired by Bold Conquest and out of Khadiliah. She is trained by Jason DaCosta with Phillip Parchment riding. It is expected to be challenging for her to compete in this race.
- BANADURA is a bay born on March 21, sired by Casual Trick, and out of Esperanza. She is also trained by Jason DaCosta with Robert Halledeen as the jockey. Banadura is known for her speed, having secured three wins in previous races, including the seven-furlong Thornbird Stakes. She is a strong contender and is expected to lead in the race.
- BLU SENSATION is a bay born on February 12, sired by Sensational Slam and out of Blues In The Grass. She is trained by Peter-John Parsard with Reyan Lewis as the jockey. Blu Sensation is in top form and is considered a favourite to win the race, especially after a recent victory against tough competition. She is expected to race close to the leaders and make her move when ready.
- BUTTERCUP is a bay born on February 2, sired by Conquest Cherimash and out of Shahar. Trained by Richard Azan with Shane Richardson as the rider, Buttercup has not performed as well as expected and is considered an outside contender in this race.
- SIPPIN ON SUNSHINE is a bay born on April 23, sired by Sunshine N Shadow and out of Casual Drink. Trained by Nicholas Wehby with Aaron Chatrie as the listed jockey, Sippin On Sunshine is not expected to perform well in this race.
- SHE’S THAT GIRL is a chestnut born on February 24, sired by Sensational Slam and out of Palace Gold. Trained by Steven Todd with Raddesh Roman riding, She’s That Girl has shown potential with two wins and a second place in three starts. While she has speed, maintaining it over the 10-furlong race will be challenging.
- PRINCESS FIANIE is a bay born on January 16, sired by Soul Warrior and out of Ship Sham. She is trained by Rudolph Hardial with Oshane Nugent as the rider. Princess Fianie is still developing and may not be ready to compete at this level yet, but she is expected to show some progress.
- LADY LAUREN: A bay born on February 27, sired by Deputy Glitters out of Anna. She is trained by Steven Todd with Shamaree Muir as the jockey. Note that Lady Lauren races without a visor. Not expected to perform well.
- AMMA: A bay horse born on February 3, sired by Bern Identity out of Blufield. She is trained by Peter-John Parsard with Shane Ellis as the jockey. Despite facing several issues in her career, the presence of Shane Ellis is worth considering. Amma's full potential is likely to be seen later in her career.
- COMEHOMETOME: A bay horse born in January, sired by Northern Giant out of Heart of Gold. Trained by Jason DaCosta with Tevin Foster as the jockey. Known for coming in second place multiple times, Comehometome has been prepared by the trainer specifically for the Oaks after not racing since the Guineas in early June. She has shown promising signs during morning exercises, indicating a good level of fitness for the upcoming race.
- RACK DEM: A grey horse born on April 24, sired by Midnight Hawk out of Cherokee Way. Trained by Fernando Geddes with Everton Miller as the jockey. Note that Rack Dem races without a tongue tie. Expected to perform better in non-two races.
- O SO SMART: A chestnut filly born on May 24, sired by Soul Warrior out of Patchwork. Trained by Steven Todd. Still in the learning phase.
- LUCY IN THE SKY: A bay horse born on March 23, sired by Liquidity out of Tap A Bay. Trained by Jason DaCosta with Shavon Townsend as the jockey. Unlikely to have a realistic chance of winning.
