KINGSTON, Jamaica - Traditional Lady, running with the blinkers off, came from behind runners to win a native-bred four-year-old and upwards (non-winners of two) and imported four-year-olds and upwards (maidens) over 7 furlongs (1,400m).
Trained by Patrick Lynch and ridden by Javaniel Patterson, Traditional Lady raced behind the early pacesetters and watched as King Air (Matthew Bennett) led the field ahead of Princess Sylvia (Reyan Lewis) and Salud (Paul Francis) down the backstretch.
Traditional Lady then made her move when she slipped down into fourth place going into the half-mile (800m) turn behind King Air, Great Wayne (Roger Hewitt), and Salud. Turning for home on the outside of runners, Traditional Lady changed gear and powered her way to a 2 ½ length win at the wire.
Princess Sylvia finished in second place, ahead of Salud in third. The final time for the race was 1:30.0 (24.4 x 48.3 x 1:15.2).
