KINGSTON, Jamaica – Jockey Samantha Fletcher produced one of best rides to date bringing 7-5 chance Black River trained by Delroy Wisdom with a well-timed effort to win the Caymanas Saturday fifth in the final stride.
The Caymanas Saturday fifth for five-year-old and upward horses (non-winners of three) at five furlongs straight.
As expected, it was Casual Charm (Jordan Barrett) who was the first to show when the starter let them go. Casual Charm maintained her position for the first three furlongs but started to wobble with two furlongs left in this contest as Thepowersthatbe (Oshane Nugent) and It’s All I (Anthony Thomas), both coming from outside draws took over.
Thepowersthatbe got the better of that duel but Fletcher brought Black River with a late charge and the five-year-old mare went by Thepowersthatbe, in the glass, to win by a head. It’s All I was third.
Interestingly, the first three in this the fifth race were all drawn on the outside.
