KINGSTON, Jamaica - Bigdaddykool, the premier stayer in the land died early yesterday morning after completing his exercise gallop.
Trained by Anthony Nunes, Bigdaddykool was working alongside his stable companion Toona Ciliata when he collapsed shortly after passing the winning post.
Bigdaddykool had qualified to run in this year’s Diamond Mile scheduled for November 9 at Caymanas Park. On the three occasions that Bigdaddykool raced in the Diamond Mile he finished in second place.
Bigdaddykool last faced the starter on October 6 in the 10- furlong Lasco-sponsored Superstakes, when he finished fourth behind She’s A Maneater, stablemate Toona Ciliata and Sentient. Following his below par performance in the Superstakes, Nunes confirmed that his charge bled through Lasix in the event but was preparing well heading into the Diamond Mile.
Bigdaddykool won the first running of the Miracle Man Trophy when he defeated She’s A Maneater in the nine- furlongs and 25-yards event last year. The Miracle Trophy replaced the long-standing Harry Jackson Memorial Cup (12 furlongs), which Bigdaddykool won in 2016 and 2017.
Other notable wins by Bigdaddykool included the 2016 Jamaica St Leger and Supertsakes and 2018 Nigel B Nunes Memorial Trophy.
Bigdaddykool ended his career with 12 wins, nine second-place finishes and eight thirds from 32 starts with earnings of over $23 million.
Bigdaddykool, a six-year-old bay gelding bred by Sorrentino – Beware Baby, — was owned by Stephan Narinesingh and Nunes.
