betMaster Race Recap - February 6, 2021

Princess Lauren - Dane Nelson
Princess Lauren - Dane Nelson

Race 1 - Top Shelf was away sharply and pressed a moderate pace throughout. Though asked for run and passed entering the final turn, she found a lot extra and safely held Wilson at bay. Wilson was under a full out drive mid-turn with work to do, and did well to finish a clear second after breaking a tad slowly, and not switching leads. Hover Craft was slow to get rolling early but finished a clear third without having much pace to close into. Miss In Kiss was away slowly as usual, took the lead at the top of the lane after being used up around the turn and found nothing thereafter.

Race 2 - As noted in betMaster Raceday Update, Subbie was well presented and ran accordingly. He was off a touch slowly from the rail post but quickly found himself in a perfect position just off the leaders, in 4th spot. Asked to run while scraping paint leaving the final turn, Subbie caught up with the leader deep inside the last furlong and edged away late. Favoured Diosa De Oro controlled the pace throughout but just couldn't last. Coralando had a dream trip but had nothing to offer when the real running started, finishing a well measured third. Definitely off colour just now.

Race 3 - Odds on favourite Princess Lauren pressed for the lead early, asserted on the final bend and won comfortably. Cartel had a good trip just off the leaders but was never going to get on terms with Lauren. Baltusrol, having his first run in 5 months, trailed early but rallied to edge Heiroffire for 3rd, despite his unimpressive appearance earlier in the a.m. Heiroffire finished a never-threatening fourth and ought to have done better.

Race 4 - Top pick Striking Lady was sharp out the gates, raced up close throughout and proved strongest late. Long-time leader Stormy Silana just failed late, having hopped on the wrong lead just past the 1/8th pole. Favored Double Jeopardy had a perfect trip, but couldn't match strides with the top two.

Race 5 - Howling favourite Zi Beast blew the doors open early and was never in danger of defeat. Awesome Cat chased from way back and finished best of the rest. Dash of Class finished third.

Race 6 - As noted in betMaster Raceday Update, In the Blood reported in good order and had the perfect trip. After breaking sharply and sitting in a cosy pocket just off the leaders, he slipped neatly into a three-wide challenging position at the head of the lane, and safely held the bid of Milkman, edging away late. Milkman wasn't well away but got into contention entering the while saving ground but had done too much early and paid the price late. Good run. Both finished clear of El Gringo and Mamasharondarling, who pressed the lead throughout.  Favored Latapy was off tardily but didn't do much thereafter, finishing next to last.

Race 7 - Firm selection Executive Chief tracked the speed of Awesome Boy and outgunned him late. K D Rocket (3rd) was up close throughout but had no punch late. Duke of Springs broke outwardly at the start, and raced up close briefly before fading to finish a distant 4th.

Race 8 - Red Hot favourite She's a Wonder shot clear midway around the bend and never looked back, winning easily from American debutant Lure of Lucy, who led early after a flying start. Miniature Man was in good position early but had nothing to offer in the stretch, finishing a disappointing 3rd.

Race 9 - Favored King's Magician duelled inside of Oldkingcole until the 1/8th pole before drawing away late to win comfortably, but not impressively. Didn't switch leads. Sweet Majesty tracked the leaders and picked up 2nd, narrowly over Amy the Butcher who ran evenly throughout. Oldkingcole just failed to hold 2nd after pushing the favourite from the jump. Not a bad effort. (Prince Marshall scratched at the gate).

Race 10 - As noted in betMaster Raceday Update, Legality reported in superior condition and won easily. After breaking alertly, Legality alternated on the lead with Sebastian, took the lead for good midway through the backstretch and never looked back. Uncle Vinnie, the subject of betMaster trips and traps, was again devoid of pace early, glided into contention around the final bend, but could not get near enough to the winner. He finished clear of Messi, who had a good trip but lacked response when asked for run.
