KINGSTON, Jamaica - The two-year-old races are coming thick and fast. There were three races last weekend for the young ones, and another two are scheduled for the upcoming race days of Saturday, December 18 and, Sunday, December 19.

On Saturday, seven juveniles face the starter with six of the lot already winners. The only maiden of the seven is also the only foreigner in the line-up Lion of Ekati trained by Jason DaCosta.

THE QUICK GALLOPER analyses the seven starters who will be travelling over six furlongs, to aid the process of choice for readers on this website in post position order.

1 – PELICULA: (2 b f by Soul Warrior – Milestone) – This filly trained by Richard Azan has raced three times with one win to her credit and that was at seven furlongs. Pelicula seems to like it the longer the races, are so coming down by a furlong, and with a tendency to be tardy at the start, will impact her chances of winning.

2 – GOLDEN WATTLE: (2 ch f Lion Tamer – Golden Glory) – Started her career with a win and has failed to follow up in the next two engagements. Golden Wattle should continue to be prominent with actually winning.

3 – BABYLIKE: (2 dkb f by Savoy Stomp – Ladylike) – A winner when last at the races on November 28 going six furlongs. Babylike has caught the eyes of clockers at exercise in preparation for this race, and it is noted that her trainer Philip Feanny has now added the tongue tie. Babylike will be the favourite and more than likely she will exit this contest with two wins from four starts.

4 – LION OF EKATI (USA): (2 dk b c by Tale of Ekati – Indian Conduct) – First timer who will be learning his trade on local soil.

5 PHOENIX RISEN: (2 ch c by Traditional – Impetus) – Got to the winners’ enclosure after four starts at five furlongs round on November 21. Phoenix Risen has been progressing at exercise but will have to play second fiddle to his stablemate.

6 – POWER RANKING: (2 b c by Casual Trick – Escandalosa) – A winner on debut (Oct 31), who has been coming along quite well at exercise. Power Ranking will be in the hustle when this one is being decided. Note Lasix has been administered for the first time.

7 – FLY MESSENGER FLY: (2 ch f by Northern Giant – Preach Preacher) – The most experienced of this lot with seven starts to date inclusive of one victory on October 25 going five furlongs round. Fly Messenger Fly has been showing signs of development at exercise and is shaping up as the outside in this contest.
