KINGSTON, Jamaica - Following Atomica’s victory in the seven-furlong Graded Stakes Eros Trophy on Saturday, June 1, 2024, trainer Gary Subratie believes his charge is showing greater courage in her performances.
“No one doubts the ability and talent of Atomica. She is a wonderfully gifted racehorse.
“As she gets older, Atomica has not only improved, she is stronger and is showing a lot more courage in her races, which makes her even more formidable. In short, Atomica is a more matured competitor,” Subratie told this website.
On Saturday with her newly found partner in the saddle, Omar Walker, Atomica was tested on the front by Mamma Mia (Jordan Barrett), yet Walker was not perturbed as he waited until the time was right to move his move.
In the straight, Atomica was challenged by Is That A Fact, and in the prevailing duel, Atomica held off her rival to take home the trophy by just under a length.
The winning time recorded by Atomica was 1:25.1, with splits of 22.4 x 46.1 x 1:12.0.
Atomica and the imported Is That A Fact have met four times in 2024, with Atomica successful on three occasions, over 8 ½ furlongs, a mile and 7 furlongs. Is That A Fact defeated Atomica once at 7 ½ furlongs.
