KINGSTON, Jamaica – Trainer Gary Subratie is brimming with confidence as he prepares Atomica for the upcoming US$250,000 Mouttet Mile. The filly’s dominant victory in the $6 million Jamaica Cup on November 9th has solidified her status as a top contender for the prestigious race.
Atomica's gate-to-wire performance in the 9 ½ furlong Graded Stakes contest was nothing short of spectacular. She crossed the finish line three parts of a length ahead of her rivals, clocking a time of 2:00.1. This impressive win not only secured her third consecutive Jamaica Cup title but also earned her an automatic berth in the Mouttet Mile.
Despite facing setbacks in the past, Subratie believes that Atomica is poised for a breakthrough performance in the December 6 race.
"She is in a different frame of mind right now," he said.
"We have spaced her out this season; we didn’t over race her and I think going into the Mouttet Mile, hopefully the right keys are turn and she is good to go."
Atomica, the reigning two-time Horse of the Year, seized control of the race from the start and maintained a comfortable lead throughout. Her strategic racing tactics and meticulous preparation were key factors in her success.
"Her preparation was excellent. I skipped the Gold Cup coming into this race. I know she loves the two-turns and I know once she was not treated unfairly with the handicaps, she would give them a run for their money," Subratie explained.
He added, "I know they were going to pressure her, but they don’t know her. The more she gets the pressure that’s the time when she starts to get going. You have to really come at her at the end, and if you can’t stay you are not going to get there."
With her unwavering determination and exceptional talent, Atomica is poised to make a significant impact on the international racing stage. As she prepares for the Mouttet Mile, horse racing enthusiasts eagerly await her next thrilling performance.
