KINGSTON, Jamaica – Trainer Gary Subratie announced that entries in the major races on Jamaica Day (Saturday, November 11, 2023) are prepared and ready to compete.

Subratie will saddle the reigning champion and current favorite, Atomica, in the Jamaica Cup (9 ½ furlongs), along with another contender, D Head Cornerstone.

Furthermore, Subratie is represented by the gifted Desert of Malibu in the St Elizabeth Distaff (one mile).

Regarding Atomica's preparation for her title defense, he expressed reasonable satisfaction.

"She is fit and well-fed, with the team at the stables taking great care of her," said Subratie.

Atomica completed her final speed workout last weekend, clocking 1:15.1 for six furlongs according to timekeepers.

“Atomica had her last speed workout over last weekend, galloping according to the clockers 1:15.1 for six furlongs.

“This gallop was a tad slower than I wanted but I was contented with how she galloped the last two furlongs in approximately 23.0 seconds,” the trainer shared.

Regarding the post-position draw for Atomica, Subratie seemed had not difficulties.

"The draw has little significance with only six starters. Many may have noticed that Atomica often drew inside positions in past races, leading to occasional blockages or interference. On Saturday, she has a more favorable outside draw," explained Subratie.

Subratie also shared his thoughts on Desert of Malibu's readiness for her first Overnight Allowance attempt.

"Desert of Malibu is an exceptionally talented filly with several health issues to manage. Nonetheless, she consistently demonstrates above-average development in her races," he said.

According to Subratie, Desert of Malibu has prepared well for the St Elizabeth Distaff.

“Every time she races, Desert of Malibu shows above average development.

“Coming into the St Elizabeth Distaff, Desert of Malibu has done every right. She is holding her own at present, with my only area of some concern is the distance of a mile, having not raced competitively longer than 5 ½ furlongs. But based on how she is exercising, it should not be a problem,” Subratie said.
