KINGSTON, Jamaica – It took Colorado Ranger 26 attempts to finally go by the winning post in front. That long-awaited victory for the bay colt came in the Caymanas Saturday fourth, which was a three-year-old maiden condition call at five furlongs straight.
Racing at odds of 9-1, in a race cut short by one after Curlin’s Kawartha was declared a late non-starter at the gates, jockey Shane Ellis kept Colorado Ranger well behind the leaders Morse Code (Anthony Thomas) and Chiney Music (Jordan Barrett). At this time, Letters In Gold (Tevin Foster) was prominent on the outside rails.
With a furlong left in the contest, Morse Code held the advantage with Letters In Gold hovering close by. Then Colorado Ranger arrived between horses to snatch the win for his trainer Gary Griffiths by a neck.
Letters In Gold finished second with Morse Code third, giving trainer Griffiths a one-two finish. Of note is that, this was the 28th race day appearance by Letters In Gold.
