KINGSTON, Jamaica – A patient and mature ride by improving apprentice Kiaman McGregor saw Axle Rod winning the third of 11 on the Caymanas Park programme just moments ago.
Axle Rod trained by Everal Francis was allowed to wait as the speedy Fly First Class (Christopher Mamdeen) led the field of five from the start in the Optional Claimer ($650,000 - $600,000) 5 ½ furlongs event. There were two late non-starters #1 Colt of Arms and #6 Mr Pantheon.
Fly First Class, the odds on 2-5 favourite took the five runners into the lane but McGregor got rolling on Axle Rod who went by close to the furlong marker to win comfortably by 1 ½ lengths.
Eye Candy (Reyan Lewis) was squeezed for space in the stretch drive but was still able to get second over a tiring Fly First Class.
