KINGSTON, Jamaica – After failing to ride a winner yesterday (Saturday, October 30), and after losing on the 1-5 favourite in the first event today, jockey Anthony Thomas finally found the winning post in front on the Oneil Markland trained Sharp Skirt.
That first win on the weekend programmes for Thomas came in a three-year-old and upwards Claiming ($250,000 - $200,000) event at 6 furlongs.
Even money favourite Justsaytheword (Ruja Lahoe) quickly assumed the lead when the barriers were opened followed by Herecomestheboss (Javaniel Patterson) for the first furlong. Thomas then pushed Sharp Skirt to challenge Justsaytheword, who held the advantage coming into the straight.
Sharp Skirt found here best stride and went by Justsayaword without hesitation going on to win by 6 ½ lengths.
Justsaythe word was second and Sly Stalloon third.
