KINGSTON, Jamaica - Following an underwhelming performance in the one-mile Overnight Allowance St Elizabeth Distaff on Jamaica Day, Saturday, November 11, 2023, Quickgallop.com interviewed Howard Jaghai, the trainer of American Tap, to discuss her future plans.
QUICKGALLOP (QG): What are your thoughts on American Tap's performance in the Distaff?
HOWARD JAGHAI (HJ): In my view, it was an average performance. Considering it was only her second race in Jamaica and she was going from five furlongs to a mile, she did well. Ultimately, the quick jump to a mile contributed to her performance. Nevertheless, her excellent splits and final time in the five straight were impressive. I see her performance as part of the learning curve.
QG: How did American Tap fare after the Distaff?
HJ: It's been three days since the race, and so far, she's doing well. She is fine and eating properly.
QG: Will American Tap participate in the Mouttet Mile on December 2?
HJ: Our objective is to train American Tap for the Mouttet Mile. She has already qualified for it, and the owners will make a final decision about her participation soon.
QG: Earlier, you mentioned that the mile trip in the Distaff might have contributed to American Tap's Distaff effort. Will it not be an issue in the Mouttet Mile?
HJ: I don't think so. With her experience in the Distaff and more time to train for the next race, she'll be better prepared and fitter. I'm confident in her ability to perform well.
