KINGSTON, Jamaica - The eighth race on Saturday, June 15, 2024, honours the outstanding thoroughbred Mr Lover Lover, who has the unique distinction of winning the Derby in Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago.

The Mr Lover Lover Trophy is for three-year-old non-winners of two for locally bred horses, also a maiden for three-year-old foreigners.

In the 2024 Mr Lover Lover, eight horses are entered to compete over the two turns of nine furlongs and 25 yards.

The Quick Galloper analysis of the winning chances of these eight horses is published below in draw order.

1 - CHESNEY is a chestnut filly (USA April 14) by Solomini out of El Coyote, trained by Steven Todd with Paul Francis riding. Chesney races with the visor off, blinkers on, and first-time Lasix. This American bred is slowly coming to terms with local conditions. Not ready as yet. The introduction of Lasix should aid the progression of Chesney.

2 - BRENDA BOY is a bay colt (April 3) by Savoy Stomp out of Delightful Brenda, trained by Fitzgerald Richards with Omar Walker aboard. This colt enters the level of non-two for the first occasion. He will learn.

3 - LADY LAUREN is a bay filly (February 27) by Deputy Glitters out of Anna, trained by Steven Todd with Youville Pinnock in the saddle. The learning curve for this filly is a continuing process.

4 - UNRULY DON is a bay colt (April 26) by Savoy Stomp out of Lady Mandi, trained by Oral Hayden with Shane Richardson holding the reins. Note that Unruly Don races with the blinkers off. After opening his career with a win, Unruly Don has not developed as expected. Although Unruly Don has speed, nine furlongs and 25 yards, might prove beyond his scope.

5 - CAPTAIN SPARROW is a bay colt (March 16) by Savoy Stomp out of Rackam’s Mistress, trained by Reyan Lewis listed as the designated jockey. A lot was expected of Captain Sparrow going into the 2000 Guineas but he was withdrawn at the last minute. Before the Guineas, Captain Sparrow advertised his form and potential when finishing 3 ½ lengths behind Intrestntimesahead in The Kingston (7 ½ furlongs), on May 5. He will thoroughly enjoy racing around two turns and is going to strive at this trip.  The Mr Lover Lover is a defining event for the Classic race potential of Captain Sparrow.

6 - SUPREMASI is a bay colt (May 12) by Savoy Stomp out of Beware Baby, trained by Anthony Nunes with Raddesh Roman riding. Enters non-winners of two for the first time. Supremasi is bred to go long, being a half-brother to the well-accomplished stayer, Bigdaddykool. Supremasi will be watched closely.

7 - BUTTERCUP is a bay filly (February 2) by Conquest Cherimash out of Shar, trained by Richard Azan with Jordan Barrett aboard. Was a complete no-show in the 1000 Guineas. That trend by Buttercup is going to continue in the Mr Lover Lover.

8 - J SPIETH is a grey colt (March 26) by Spieth out of Alice And Trixie, trained by Patrick Lynch with Ramon Nepare holding the reins. Note that J Spieth races with the blinkers and tongue tie-off. Gave his worst performance from his four starts, when finishing seventh, 12 lengths behind California Gold on June 2, in the 2000 Guineas. J Spieth is the speed in this call and will have to be caught.
