KINGSTON, Jamaica – Racing for the first time with veteran jockey Ian “Dolly Baby” Spence in the saddle for trainer Philip Feanny, Adoration under no pressure whatsoever turned up the heat to capture the Mercury Sprint as Saturday racing continued with the third race at Caymanas Park.

The Mercury and The Eight Thirty Sprint both run over five furlongs straight are considered to be the starter races for the Classic season.

Spence kept Adoration, who showed much maturity during his first competitive effort, in a straight line, as the three-year-old bay colt by Adore The Gold – Save More got out of his starting stall in good order.

Galloping resolutely throughout, Adoration put aside the early interest of the 1-5 favourite Halls of Justice (Dane Dawkins) without any fuss before powering away to reach the winning post five lengths ahead of second placed Dracarys (Dane Nelson – 3-1). Third went to a fading Halls of Justice.

Adoration completed five furlongs straight in a time of 1:00.3.

Interestingly, Adoration raced with any equipment and without Lasix.
