KINGSTON, Jamaica - On January 27, 2018, the Anthony Nunes-conditioned four-year-old chestnut gelding Adonis made his seasonal debut in the $870,000 Mercury Sprint and won the five-furlong (1,000m) straight event in a relaxed time of one minute.
Adonis then notched four consecutive wins over the distance on September 29, 2018 - in 57.3 seconds; December 29, 2018 - in 58.4 seconds; on January 30, 2019 - in 58.3 seconds and on February 16, 2019 - in 58.0 seconds.
Adonis then had his sixth win over the course on October 12, 2019, after romping home in an Optional Claiming ($750,000- $700,000) spread in a time of 59.0.
Last Saturday the winning trek down the five straight continued as the Blue Pepsi Lodge – La Reina offspring romped to his seventh career win over the distance in the Pick-3 Challenge Trophy. Adonis won by 2 ½ lengths in a time of 59.2.
With the in-form Dane Nelson in the saddle, Adonis was off to his usual good start as he matched early strides with Talented Tony K (Anthony Allen) and Polly B (Abigail Able).
Coming across the dummy rails, Talented Tony K held the lead but when Nelson pushed Adonis, the speedy gelding sprinted clear from rivals. Polly B ended in the second spot with Talented Tony K third.
