KINGSTON, Jamaica – Using his years of experience and his accumulated judgement of pace and accurate timing, jockey Allen ‘Bongo John’ Maragh brought the Patrick Lynch-trained Ability with a pulverizing run from 2 ½ furlongs out of 12, to win the 103rd running of the Jamaica Derby at shattering odds of 17-1.
For Lynch, it was his third victory in the Derby (The Bomber, Drone Strike), and for Maragh his second, with his first being Miracle Man.
Ability is a bay colt by Lion Tamer out of Disability Charm, who is also owned by Lynch.

A wonder if these so called big jockey at the track observe and understand how you apply a whip to a horse three times maragh use the whip on ability down the straight three he got the horse to it's maximum speed then concentrate on the most important aspect balance all the way to the winning post it's not about beating the hell out of a horse that matters it's a reason saphie Joseph from Gulfstream send for Anthony Thomas to ride at Gulfstream it's because he sees how this Jamaican jockey apply the use of his whip his technique and sees potential in Thomas
Yes, that was duly noticed. Look at his wins on Amad Ali and Burlap.
DERBY OBSERVATOR : HEY JA GALLOP NICE JOB AS USUAL COVERING THE SPORT OF KINGS IN JAMAICA. Yes big ride Bongo John. Your experience and competence was well noted. You rode the horse in a way that gave him the best of winning at the distance.
Experience in these races means a lot
