KINGSTON, Jamaica – THE QUICK GALLOPER’S QUICK TAKE on the race day of Saturday, May 28, 2022, is published below.
RACE ONE – This three-year-old maiden contest (Division One) for horses who have not finished second or third, turned out to be a stroll for the Norman Smith trained Maggie’s Boy with Tevin Foster in the saddle. Maggie’s Boy provided trainer Smith with his second victory this season from 25 starts. It was also, win number one on the day for the prolific Foster.
RACE TWO – At nine-years-old Papa Albert again demonstrated that he still has speed and can handle low claiming with aplomb. Having changed hands several times in his career, it was now the turn of trainer Shaun Williams with Reyan Lewis aboard. For Papa Albert himself, it was his 16 win from 57 career starts. Williams was saddling his fourth winner this year from only eleven starts.
RACE THREE – The official notes on Bruce Wayne when he last raced on May 14 were as such …lame – eased down… Well, there were no visible signs of lameness on Saturday, May 28, instead, the eight-year-old gelding was in his ‘ackee’, winning by ten lengths for returning from suspension jockey Aaron Chatrie and trainer Steven Todd. First winner on the day for both Todd and Chatrie.
RACE FOUR – It had to happen and it did for veteran Another Bullet in $750,000 claiming at a mile. It has been a long wait for trainer Patrick Lynch, who has taken Another Bullet from Graded Stakes through Open Allowance, Overnight Allowance, top claiming, and now $750,000 claiming. For the record, it was Another Bullet's 14th victory from 79 starts with lifetime earnings of over $14.6 million. That trainer Lynch stayed with this horse for so long is a testament to his faith and love for Another Bullet.
RACE FIVE – Triple Seven sealed a double for trainer Steven Todd, with an easy win. It was the first on the day for leading jockey Anthony Thomas.
RACE SIX – The upsetter in the Reggae 6 came in the cash-out leg when Aava Jaelyn trained by Norman Thompson and ridden by Roger Hewitt came in at hot odds of 23-1, the longest on the day. This three-year-old chestnut filly was racing for the fourth occasion without any showing of what was to come in those efforts. Aava Jaelyn broke a lean seven-year winless spell for trainer Thompson who could not hide his unbridled joy in the winners’ enclosure.
RACE SEVEN – With trainer Donovan Russell deciding to take the figure eight off, Pass The Booze went in front in this four-year-old and upwards non-winners of two call at 5 ½ furlongs, blowing away rivals in the process by all of nine lengths. For Pass The Booze, it was his second visit to the winners’ circle from six career starts.
RACE EIGHT – It is not often that a newcomer comes on the scene as a four-year-old and makes an immediate impact. No Surrender came from off the pace under a swashbuckling ride from the always rambunctious Aaron Chatrie. Praise must be given to trainer David Lee Sin for persevering with his charge and for bringing No Surrender to the wicket in spanking form for this debut victory. No Surrender was win number two for Chatrie.
RACE NINE – This four-year-old and upwards non-winners of three races was tailored for the Richard Azan trained, Dick Cardenas rode Artesia, and so it turned out. Artesia won by seven lengths.
RACE TEN – Known for her likeness of the straight course, Go Deh Girl returned from a break of 56 days in the best of nick in this Open Allowance call. Racing on the outside in the field of six runners, with Tevin Foster in the saddle for champion trainer Anthony Nunes, Go Deh Girl maintained a strong gallop and was never in danger of losing to record her sixth win from 19 starts. It was win number two on the day for Foster.
RACE ELEVEN – Lightly raced foreign filly (four starts – three wins) Double Diva racing in Overnight Allowance for the first time was taken to the lead by her rider Anthony Thomas. After disposing of another foreigner, The Good Witch, Double Diva entered the straight with the advantage and then came a display of her class, as she accelerated to dispatch all winning by five lengths. Double Diva has now arrived in Open Allowance to enhance the complement of her trainer Jason DaCosta. Apart from Double Diva, DaCosta also has Eagle One, King Arthur, Hover Craft, and I Am Fred in the grouping.
