KINGSTON, Jamaica - Rani Bangala, trained by Robert Pearson and ridden by Dane Dawkins, easily obliged as the favourite in a native-bred four-year-old and upwards (non-winners of two) and imported four-year-olds and upwards (maidens) going 6 furlongs on Monday, August 7, 2023.
Rani Bangala broke off well at the start of the race with the front pack but was quickly taken off the pace as Funometer (Roger Hewitt) surround horses and took the field into the half-mile ahead of Melmich (Jerome Innis), Heroine (Chalrick Budhai), and The Gifted One (Samantha Fletcher).
Rani Bangala was still off the leaders approaching the distance as Funometer and The Gifted One continued to battle for supremacy.
Rani Bangala exploded like a cannon ball on fire in deep stretch and the four-year-old bay filly sprinted away to score by 16 ½ lengths at the wire.
The Gifted One finished second ahead of Funometer in third place.
The final time for the race was 1:15.4 (24.0 x 47.4).
