KINGSTON, Jamaica – Durocell’s fighting victory in the 2023 fillies-only Hot Line Stakes competed for over six furlongs for three-year-old fillies only.
The win by Durocell brought particular joy to her trainer Patrick Fong. This long-standing member of the horse racing fraternity has served as a groom, a swimmer of horses, and now a conditioner.
The Quick Galloper’s analysis of the Hot Line Stakes, considered to be the start of the Road To The Triple is provided below for the perusal of readers on this website based on final positions.
FIRST: Durocell - put in a gallant shift with a resurgent Bebeto Harvey in the saddle. Harvey started his career on a high note being of the top apprentices from his cohort. Seems to have developed a big race tendency with victory atop Excessive Force in the first Moutett Mile a case in point. For Fong, it was a needed fillip in his career, and is to be congratulated for bringing Durocell to the wicket in tip-top shape. As to the future, Durocell proved she has spunk which is an attribute going forward in the filly’s Classic races to come.
SECOND: Royal Ash - returning from a long break gave it all she got just failing to find success by three parts of a length. She lost not merit in defeat, with the experience of Durocell coming to the fore when it was decision time. Now, having the benefit of the Hot Line run under her girth, Royal Ash given normal three-year-old progress will be well poised for later efforts.
THIRD: All For Love – was running on well, finishing three lengths behind the winner. This Gary Subratie filly again demonstrated her likeness for coming late on in her races. All For Love will develop and is to be watched when the seven-furlong Thornbird Stakes and also the one-mile 1000 Guineas come around later in the year. Watch the progress of All For Love closely.
FOURTH: Volatility did well but was no match for the first three. This filly will probably with time go through her class obligations, without rattling feathers in the major three-year-old races to come.
FIFTH: Acknowledgeme is developing into a consistent sort among the three-year-old fillies. Might find a suitable place in the earning positions in these specialised races.
SIXTH: Speedie Hare – the anticipated speedy upfront run did not materialise in the Hot Line. Speedie Hare did make a surge while rounding the bend, and that was it. Speedie Hare seems to be an out-and-out sprinter in the making.
SEVENTH: Boasey – has no impact in this one.
EIGHTH: Bazinga – much more was expected but did not deliver.
NINTH: Bella Bella – did not turn up for this one.
TENTH: She’s Myhedgefund – will struggle to even get through her conditions.
