A FIERCE SUNDAY (APRIL 17) NON-TWO | NEFERTARI, SILENT MISSION, POWER, PEAKY BLINDERS
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Most racing eyes will be zooming in on the ninth race on the Easter Sunday (April 17) card.
That event is a three-year-old (non-two) for local bred horses and a maiden for foreigners going a mile.
The main interest surrounds the second race track appearance of Nefertari, but there are 11 other horses in this contest, all waiting to find out whether they are ready for meaningful participation in the upcoming series of Classic races.
THE QUICK GALLOPER went through the past performances of the 12 entered to find the winner in this intriguing event. The result of this search is listed below in post-position order.
Gilbert is a US-bred three-year-old chestnut colt by Jack Milton out of Causin A Storm trained by Philip Feanny. Gilbert has yet to find himself on local soil, plus, he gives the impression of being more of a run-on sprinter with a mile being a bit too long right now.
Our Angel is a three-year-old bay filly by Savoy Stomp out of My Angel trained by Robert Pearson. Clockers say that Our Angel has been picking up the tempo at exercise for this engagement. Our Angel has experience on her side with six starts but is going to be tested to the limit if she is to win this one.
Salute The Deputy is a three-year-old bay gelding by Deputy Glitters out of No Pain No Gain trained by Michael Marlowe. Salute The Deputy races for the first time in non-winners of two after upsetting at odds of 18 in his second start. Salute The Deputy must wait for a different occasion to put another tick in his win column.
Nefertari is a three-year-old bay filly by Savoy Stomp – Princess Geeta trained by Anthony Nunes. Nefertari came into prominence on her first outing as after a poor start rallied with a noticeable surge in the stretch to win without any fuss. That was against a weak field, nonetheless, Nefertari did more than enough to suggest that she is of special ability. On Sunday, Nefertari faces better rivals but has done some good work at exercise and seems ready to make two from two. SPECIAL NOTE: Princess Geeta the dam of Nefertari has already produced Fayrouz and Will At War.
Stomp The Rhythm is a three-year-old bay gelding by Savoy Stomp out of River Rhythm trained by Vincent Atkinson. Won by ten lengths in his third race over 6 ½ furlongs to signal his progress among his peers. Since that March 27, winning effort, Stomp The Rhythm has looked good at exercise, and cannot be left out of the reckoning.
Roraima is a three-year-old bay colt by Bern Identity out of Classic Princess trained by Anthony Nunes. Roraima after his maiden win on January 29, has raced twice in non-winners of two and is yet to show that he is ready to handle more accomplished rivals.
Power is a chestnut colt (bred in utero) by Bal A Bali out of Swift Fox trained by Philip Feanny. Power faces easier rivals than he did on April 3 in the Prince Consort Stakes when he finished fourth – 6 ½ lengths – behind Emperorofthecats, Blue Vinyl, and Tekapunt. In the Prince Consort (7 furlongs), Power was fading in the final furlong but with the quality of rivals on Monday reduced, Power must be considered for a winning run.
Silent Mission is a three-year-old bay filly by Savoy Stomp out of Lady Mandi trained by Jason DaCosta. Silent Mission finished third in the Thornbird Stakes (7 furlongs), running on without influencing the outcome. This filly with the benefit of that run and going one-furlong longer is going to have a say in the final placings. SPECIAL NOTE: Lady Mandi the dam of Silent Mission has already produced Born Diplomat.
Thirtyonekisses is a three-year-old bay filly by Savoy Stomp out of Shahar trained by Richard Azan. Thirtyonekisses has already won over a mile, thereby, giving her every chance of winning this one but now the level of competition is higher. She will have to make every step right. SPECIAL NOTE: Shahar the dam of Thirtyonekisses has already produced Little Thunder, Sheer Madness, Puddy Pooh, Awesome Sauce, Sir Puddington, and Gypsy Jam.
Lion of Ekati is a US-bred three-year-old dark bay gelding by Tale of Ekati trained by Jason DaCosta. Lion of Ekati has raced six times and, yet, has done nothing of significance.
Giant Wheeler is a three-year-old chestnut colt by Northern Giant out of Khadilah trained by Jason DaCosta. Got off the mark 21 days ago and now enters non-winners of two for the first time and is going to need more time. SPECIAL NOTE: Khadilah the dam of Giant Wheeler has already produced Storm Princess, Kalahari, Elitist, and Billy Whizz.
Peaky Blinders is a three-year-old chestnut gelding by Mshawish out of Visionary Wonder trained by Steven Todd. Peaky Blinders has two career starts, winning on debut, then finished second behind The Citadel going 7 ½ furlongs. At exercise, Peaky Blinders has looked good and with his past form has every chance of winning.
