Following Abigail Able's victory aboard Fly Messenger Fly in the fourth race on Sunday, January 21, 2024, she said in her post-race interview that her goal now is to gain more rides and possibly win more races.
“I feel good. Thanks to the trainer. I was patient with my mount. I was waiting on the right time to move and I moved at the perfect time and that was that,” Able said in her post race interview.
“I wasn’t worried at any point during the race. Once I saw She’s Fantastic approach, Prissie, I knew that the race was all mine. I got the opening and it carried me to the winning post. This season will be a better season for me.
“Like everyone else, I want to win many races, and to do that I must first get the rides to do so. Whenever I get the good ones (rides), I make full use of them. Success only comes with hard work and I am all about hard work. I am willing to go the extra mile and to do the extra work as well,” she said.
Able brought the Jason DaCosta-trained Fly Messenger Fly from last position to first in a native-bred five-year-old and upward (non-winners of four) and imported five-year-old and upward (non-winners of three) over 7 ½ furlongs. Fly Messenger Fly won by a length and a quarter in a time of 1:35.4 (24.1 x 47.3 x 1:13.2).
