KINGSTON, Jamaica – Mr Universe brought back some hope for champion trainer Wayne DaCosta and leading rider Anthony after he held on to win the Open Allowance event over five furlongs straight a short while ago at Caymanas Park.
That made it two wins on the day for Thomas who re-established his lead of eight winners over Dick Cardenas in the jockey’s championship. Both riders, with one race to go have ridden two winners.
Mr Universe was the 2-5 odds on favourite, while Campesino who finished second went off at 4-1 with third going to emerging sprinter Patriarch.
The splits were 22.2 x 44.3 and the margins ½ by 1 ¾.
