KINGSTON, Jamaica – It was worth going miles to see.
The seventh race provided one of those rare moments in racing as jockey Robert Halledeen who is currently enjoying a purple patch produced probably his best ride ever to bring home Graydon for trainer Anthony Nunes in a 9 furlongs and 25 yards contest.
Halledeen went to lead as the horses entered the backstretch in the two-turn event. At this stage Coralando with Omar Walker in the saddle was galloping easy in fourth.
Around the second turn, Graydon moved on a bit but Coralando was now much closer and ready to strike.
The horses were together as the stretch drive loomed.
Walker on the outside pushed Coralando in front with a furlong to go as Graydon seemed to be fading. Then conjuring all his skill and strength, Halledeen revived Graydon who responded to regain the ascendency for victory by ½ length.
The winning time was 1:59.0, Secret Traveller was third.
