Race three of ten on Saturday, October 31, 2026, marks the annual renewal of the Hovercraft Sprint, honouring one of the most consistent and tenacious thoroughbreds to ever grace the local racing circuit at Caymanas Park.
Staged as a premier test for the juvenile division, the Hovercraft Sprint is exclusively designated for two-year-olds who are non-winners of three races.
The compact field of six youngsters will face a six-furlong journey, the longest distance to be travelled by any juvenile thus far this racing season, placing a premium on stamina, tactical speed, and early development.
With a full field of six competitors set to face the starter, The Quick Galloper’s comprehensive take on the possible outcome of this contest is shared below in post-position order.
1 – BOSS OVER BOSS
Chestnut colt (March 6) by Bern Identity out of Woman Is Boss
Trainer – Jason DaCosta
Jockey – Clive Lynch
Equipment Change – Tongue tie on
As the winner of the very first juvenile race this season, Boss Over Boss was subsequently put firmly in his place next time out by Birthday King, finishing third and some 21 lengths adrift at the wire. That sub-par effort can easily be written off for the time being, however, as this promising colt continues his progression. Hopefully, the addition of the tongue tie will aid his cause today and help him secure a prominent place on the board.
2 – BIRTHDAY KING (USA)
Chestnut colt (April 24) by Kantharos out of Always Kitten
Trainer – Jason DaCosta
Jockey – Tevin Foster
Standing out as the only two-year-old to capture two victories in 2026, Birthday King also holds the distinct advantage of being the sole juvenile to reap success going further than five furlongs. He has continued to catch the watchful eyes of clockers and onlookers during morning exercise sessions; overall, he is going to be exceptionally difficult to deny in this assignment.
3 – GLAMA KING
Bay filly (April 8) by Bern Identity out of Indian Bluff
Trainer – Jason DaCosta
Jockey – Garvin Harris
This bay filly has been kept busy, racing in and around the money in her four starts to date without finding the winning groove. Facing tougher rivals over a longer trip, she will not be a factor in the finish.
4 – MAZZARO (USA)
Brown colt (April 6) by Upstart out of Subtlety
Trainer – Richard Azan
Jockey – Bebeto Harvey
Equipment – Tongue tie
Mazzaro makes his highly anticipated career debut here after looking notably fluent during morning exercise. Fitted with a tongue tie right out of the gate, he is definitely one to watch closely.
5 – LEELA’S CHOICE
Bay filly (March 11) by Sir Alton out of Antoinette
Trainer – Jason DaCosta
Jockey – Calvin Bailey
Leela’s Choice has already gained valuable experience having faced the starter four times, though based on her exposed form she must be considered the official filler among her more accomplished peers.
6 – BIG STACK (USA)
Brown colt (February 18) by Drain The Clock out of Tahaweel
Trainer – Jason DaCosta
Jockey – Robert Halledeen
A striking winner on debut when sprinting over four furlongs, Big Stack defeated what can fairly be considered to be moderate opposition on that occasion. Since that opening success on September 26, however, Big Stack has progressed well in the mornings. Much improvement is anticipated from this progressive American-bred colt as he steps up in trip.
