Winchell Thoroughbreds’ Breeders’ Cup Classic contender Magnitude was among the four scratches announced by the Breeders’ Cup on Thursday afternoon.
Coolmore subsequently announced that Magnitude has been retired from racing, clarifying that the 4-year-old horse was “unfortunately scratched on veterinary advice.”
The Steve Asmussen-trained son of Not This Time was 6-1 on the morning line from post 6 with Flavien Prat in the irons. Magnitude had won three of four starts in 2026, including the Grade 1 Stephen Foster and the G1 Dubai World Cup.
Asmussen told David Grening of the Daily Racing Form that the scratch occurred after “a PET scan revealed some disruption in the suspensory fibres of his left fore.”
Zedan Racing Stable’s Nooni was also withdrawn from the Filly & Mare Sprint. The Baffert trainee was 30-1 on the morning line from post 13 with Mario Gutierrez aboard. The 4-year-old daughter of Win Win Win won back-to-back allowance optional claiming races in her most recent starts.
Don Alberto Stable’s Chilean-bred multiple G1 winner Eccentric was scratched from the Filly & Mare Turf. The 4-year-old would’ve been making her U.S. debut for trainer Wesley Ward. She was 30-1 on the morning line with Walter Rodriguez scheduled to ride.
Aidan O’Brien-trained G2 winner Man’s Best Friend was scratched from the Juvenile Turf. The son of No Nay Never was one of four Aidan O’Brien trainees in the one-mile turf contest. Owned by Westerberg, Mrs. John Magnier, Michael Tabor, and Derrick Smith, Man’s Best Friend was 15-1 on the morning line with jockey Colin Keane named to ride.
