Christoff Douglas is a rising professional thoroughbred racing jockey who has been making notable strides riding primarily on the Canadian circuit, centred at the Woodbine Racetrack.
Background & Lineage
- Racing Heritage: Douglas comes from a deep-rooted family legacy in horse racing. As he has noted, racing is in his bloodline: "I was born into it, my dad's a jockey, my grandma was a trainer... It's a natural path for me." Christoff’s father, Christopher (Chris) started his riding career in Jamaica before migrating to Canada.
- Early Career Milestones: After waiting for the right opportunity to launch his formal riding career, he debuted as an apprentice jockey at Woodbine.
- First Winners: He secured his first career mount on November 21, 2025, aboard Cadfael, and quickly notched his milestone first career victory just days later on November 27, 2025, steering Kavala to a thrilling win by a nose in a tight finish.
Riding Style & Career Progression
- Apprentice Status: Starting out as a 10-pound bug (apprentice allowance), Douglas has earned praise from prominent trainers like Nick Armata for his growing aggressiveness down the lane and his patient tactical sense. As he racks up wins, his allowance transitions to a 5-pound bug.
- Notable Support: He has established strong working relationships with prominent stables and trainers at Woodbine (including the Attard family, Ross Armata, and others), picking up regular mounts across sprinting and route distances.
- Recent Performance & Goals: Throughout the 2026 racing season, Douglas has steadily expanded his mount count and trips to the winner's circle, surpassing 30 wins at Woodbine with cumulative North American career stats reflecting over 35 wins and crossing the $1 million mark in purse earnings. His primary career aspirations include competing at the highest tier of the colony and chasing top apprentice honours.
