The eighth race on the nine-race card on Saturday, October 10, 2026, was the annual running of the Nigel Nunes Memorial Trophy.

Sixteen horses were entered for the Overnight Allowance contest over five furlongs.

In local racing, horses drawn in the inside stalls are often considered disadvantaged, particularly in maximum fields. Post positions one through four are generally viewed as difficult starting positions.

Among the starters was Lockdown, trained by Ryan Darby. Having recently completed his conditions, the horse was making his first appearance in Overnight Allowance company against more experienced rivals. Drawn in post position one, Lockdown attracted little support at the betting windows and started at 75-1. The favourite was Money Market, returning from a break and competing at a lower - class level. Breaking from gate nine, Money Market started at odds of 4-5.

Jockey Paul Francis kept Lockdown along the inside rails rather than moving toward the centre of the track. Meanwhile, better-supported runners such as Formalist and Miss MoneyPenny raced among the leaders.

Lockdown produced a late run to win by a head over Johncrowjeff, who started at 28-1. Get A Pepsi, sent off at 13-1, finished another half-length behind in third.

Lockdown returned $7,614 to win and $1,594 to place. The Lockdown-Johncrowjeff exacta paid $76,882, while the quinella returned $384,760.

While Lockdown's upset victory dominated the racing action, the betting story was equally noteworthy. A single punter navigated the challenges of the Twilight 6, correctly identifying all six winners and securing a payout of $5,307,775 when Sonny T And Chippy won the closing event.
