Stringin Me On won her career debut, died and was disqualified and placed fourth.
Making her first start for breeder Perry Pellerin's Dark Cloud Racing, Stringin Me On was a much-the-best winner of the fourth race Monday at Assiniboia Downs, winning the maiden special weight race for 2-year-old fillies by a widening five lengths before being disqualified and placed fourth.
Between the win and the disqualification, however, Stringin Me On collided head first with an outrider while returning to the winner's circle after the gallop-out. The outrider was ponying 19-20 favourite Onemoresteptoheaven, who had tossed her rider during the race.
Stringin Me On died from her injuries; the pony, Onemoresteptoheaven, the outrider and Stringin Me On's jockey Rachaad Knights all were fine, according to a social media post from the track posted early Wednesday morning.
There were three separate objections against three different horses in a race already marred by the thrown rider and loose horse. Only Stringin Me On was disqualified, however. Her demotion from first to fourth reduced her earnings from CAN$9,050 to CAN$754.
Bred in Alberta, Stringin Me On was by Saturdaynitelites out of Pellerin's homebred dam Unified Hearts, a stakes-winning Unification dam he campaigned out of a dam he claimed in August 2012 at Canterbury Park for CAN$5,000.
The video below shows the post-race incident. It is graphic.
