An eight-horse field was set to contest the Blumenthal Trophy at Caymanas Park tomorrow. The Overnight Allowance race is for three-year-olds and upward and will be run over 6½ furlongs (1,300m).
The Quick Galloper’s assessment of the runners, in draw order:
1 - ATLANTIC CONVOY (CAN)
His recent form offers little encouragement. He was beaten 15 lengths when last seen at this level.
2 - ANTARCTICA
A win looks unlikely.
3 - BULLETPROOFCOFFEE (USA)
He appears outmatched in this field and is expected to struggle.
4 - WALL STREET TRADER (USA)
He comes into the race off a strong second-place finish behind Mojito on August 30. Over six furlongs, he was beaten by just 1¼ lengths in 1:13.4. Consistent at this level, he should be competitive again.
5 - OF A REVOLUTION (USA)
He has won once in eight starts this season and has also come close on a couple of occasions. His latest effort was a second-place finish behind Pepper Stepper in a five-furlong straight race on September 12, clocking 58.2 seconds after making up ground late. The longer trip plays to her strengths: 6 ½ furlongs is her best distance, and she has a chance to take the race.
6 - FIT TO FIRE (USA)
This highly rated import makes his first local start after campaigning in the United States, where he has won three of 12 races. Two of those victories came this year, including his latest outing: a six-furlong win at Gulfstream Park on May 24 in 1:10.2. He has worked well for this debut and could make an immediate impact. His class could be the deciding factor.
7 - NEBUCHADNEZZAR
Reaching this level is an achievement, but he faces a difficult assignment against the American runners.
8 - MIGHTY GULLY
A late non-starter.
