Keeneland’s September Yearling Sale continued its strong run Thursday (Sept 24), with sales rising across the board for a fourth consecutive session.
Buyers purchased 311 yearlings through the ring for a total of $14.219 million, up 13.16% from the comparable session last year. The average price climbed 8.43% to $45,720, while the median rose 6.67% to $32,000.
The day’s top seller was a colt by Vekoma (Hip 3466), purchased by Pin Oak Stud for $260,000. Consigned by VanMeter Sales, the colt is out of Don’t Charge It, a winning mare by Take Charge Indy.
After 10 sessions, Keeneland had sold 2,338 yearlings through the ring for $525.9 million, an average of $224,936 and a median of $125,000. The cumulative gross was 5.14% higher than at the same point last year. Seventy yearlings had sold for $1 million or more, compared with 56 by that stage in 2025.
Kenneth McPeek, acting as agent, was Thursday’s leading buyer, spending $715,000 for five horses. Taylor Made Sales Agency led consignors, selling 36 horses for a total of $1.664 million.
